Research Interests
Nicole Anderson, PhD, CPsych, is a cognitive rehabilitation scientist in the Kunin-Lunenfeld Applied Research Unit at Baycrest. Her research has as a central theme the cognitive and neural mechanisms mediating memory, attention, and executive function interventions for adults who are at risk for neurodegenerative disease or who are living with acquired brain injury. Current studies address the questions: a) What are the cognitive mechanisms of common memory interventions? How can we use this information to improve the interventions? b) Does memory training induce more effective memory-related brain activity? c) Can we tailor attention interventions to the known functional specificity of a lesion site? If so, is the efficacy of this approach compared to more traditional rehabilitation approaches? The long-term goal of this research program is to bridge the gap between cognitive neuroscience, cognition, and functional outcome to develop new cognitive rehabilitation methods that are based on what is known about brain function and connectivity, but can be applied to everyday activities.
