Research Interests
The overarching goal of Dr. Mulsant’s research work over the past two decades has been to improve the treatment of persons with severe mental disorders. He has authored and co-authored more than 300 journal articles and book chapters. He has been continuously funded by NIMH since 1992. He is currently a principal investigator of two grants founded by the US National Institute of Health and the Canadian Institutes of Health. His long-term scientific focus has been on designing and conducting clinical trials for “hard–to-treat” older patients with severe mental disorders: geriatric depression, psychotic depression, late–life bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and dementia. More recently, his collaborators and he have been involved in efforts to personalize treatments for late-life mental disorders based on new advances in pharmacogenetics and neuroimaging.
