<p>RE: PSYCHIATRIST-IN-CHIEF, BAYCREST HOSPITAL</p>
<p>I am pleased to announce that after serving as Acting Psychiatrist-in-Chief since January 1st, 2011, Dr. Robert Madan has been appointed as Psychiatrist-in-Chief at Baycrest Hospital, effective April 2012.</p>
<p>Rob has been a member of the Department of Psychiatry for almost a decade. He began as a lecturer in 2003, and went on to earn a promotion to Assistant Professor in 2007. He received his MD degree from The University of Western Ontario in 1998, and completed a Psychiatry residency in 2003 at the University of Toronto. Three years later, Rob completed the Education Scholars Program at the Faculty of Medicine &#8211; a weekly two-year course on medical education and scholarship in medical education.</p>
<p>Rob is the Program Director for the newly accredited Geriatric Psychiatry Subspecialty. He has served as both Post-Graduate Education coordinator for Baycrest Hospital and Post-Graduate Coordinator for the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry at the University of Toronto since 2004.</p>
<p>Rob is committed to education at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and faculty levels. He continues to conduct research related to education, and is an active participant in departmental initiatives such as resident selection and curriculum design. </p>
<p>On behalf of the Department of Psychiatry, I would like to congratulate Rob on his new position. I am certain he will make great contributions to our department through his new role.</p>

<p>I am very pleased to announce Dr. <strong>David Goldbloom</strong> is the recipient of the Diamond Jubilee Medal for 2012. The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal is a new commemorative medal created to mark the 2102 celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada. The Medal is a tangible way for Canada to honour Her Majesty for her service to this country and also serves to honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians. Dr. Goldbloom was presented the award by his Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston Governor General of Canada during his visit to CAMH with his wife her Excellency Sharon Johnston on April 13, 2012. Congratulations David on this well deserved award!</p>

<p>I am very pleased to announce that Dr.<strong> Ivan Silver</strong> has been awarded the President’s Teaching Award for 2012. This university-wide Award recognizes sustained excellence in teaching, research in teaching, and the integration of teaching and research. Award winners are designated by the University as members of the Teaching Academy for a period of five years, and as members, they are periodically called upon to discuss teaching-related matters and to advise the Vice-President and Provost. They may also be asked to deliver an annual public lecture or convocation address. The awardees receive stipends of $10,000 a year for five years to further their work. Dr. Silver was recognized for his sustained excellence in teaching, educational scholarship and leadership in building a culture of teaching and learning within the Faculty of Medicine. Dr. Susan Lieff received the Award in 2011 and this is yet another testament to the department’s excellence. Congratulations Ivan on this prestigious honour!</p>

<p>Dr.<strong> Valerie Taylor </strong>has received an inaugural Mental Health Commission of Canada&#8217;s (MHCC) training fellowship in knowledge exchange. Recognizing the need for enhanced capacity to understand and implement effective knowledge exchange initiatives, the MHCC Knowledge Exchange Centre (KEC) created a nine-month SPARK Training Institute with the overall goal of improving the capacity for implementing effective knowledge exchange practices in the field of mental health, substance use and addictions. The program involves mentorship, hands on project work and capacity building in the area of knowledge exchange and begins in St. John&#8217;s, Newfoundland in July, 2012. Congratulations Valerie!</p>

<hr />Congratulations to Dr. <strong>Susan Lieff</strong> (Vice-Chair, Education) who has been recognised by the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada with the 2012 award for Outstanding Contribution to Faculty Development in Canada. This award honours exceptional contribution of the individual&#8217;s faculty development program, its regional, national or international impact, and how they have promoted the field of faculty development. Dr. Lieff will be receiving the award at the AFMC luncheon at the Canadian Conference on Medical Education in April.</p>
