Medical Student Dinners

Two to three dinners are held in an academic year in a local restaurant with an invited guest speaker to highlight particular areas in psychiatry. These informal meetings promote lively discussion of topics of interest to future psychiatrists and offer an opportunity to meet experts in the field.

The next Medical Student Dinner will be held – Tuesday, April 12th at 6:30 pm

Location: Southern Accent Restaurant, 595 Markham St.,  Toronto, Ontario ( One block west of Bathurst, just south of Bloor St) Nearest Subway Station is “Bathurst Station”

NOTE: Open to 1st, 2nd and 3rd year Medical Students


Psychiatry Interest Group (P.I.G.)

Bi-monthly movie interest nights are organized to expose students to the field of psychiatry through the media, and to enable those interested in Psychiatry to enjoy a relaxed evening of movies and dinner with peers. These are informal gatherings hosted by Residents.

The next P.I.G. event will be held:

Location: CAMH, 250 College Street, Rm 801.

This event is also a great way to find out more about psychiatry as a career and to find out about U of T Psychiatry Residency program from residents and staff. There will be free dinner too! All years are welcome!

PRAT’s Movie Night

Hi everyone,

Don’t forget to mark Tuesday November 1st (day after Hallowe’en) in your calendars for the Psychiatry Interest Group (PIG) Movie Night!!

Prior to and after the movie, we’ll discuss a career in psychiatry with residents and psychiatry staff and also discuss different themes from the movie from a psychiatric perspective.

What: We will be watching Academy Award nominated film, BLACK SWAN, starring Natalie Portman (won an Oscar for this role), Mila Kunis, and Vincent Cassel.  It is about “a ballet dancer who wins the lead in Swan Lake and is perfect for the role of the delicate White Swan – Princess Odette – but slowly loses her mind as she becomes more and more like Odile, the Black Swan.”

Information Days

For students applying to our Residency Program, Information Panels of psychiatrists representing the Department’s different Divisions and Programs are organized. This happens at the end of January during the CaRMs Information and Interview Days. Students have an opportunity to ask questions and to learn of the wide range of career paths available.
