Ontario Research Fund – Global Leadership Round in Genomics and Life Sciences (GL2)

The Ministry of Research & Innovation has just released information on a special competition of the Ontario Research Fund Global Leadership Round (GL2)

The Ontario Research Fund – GL2 competition focuses on scientific excellence and strategic value to Ontario, and targets leading-edge, large-scale research initiatives.

The Ministry encourages collaborative, transformational projects across institutions from the following areas:

  • genomics and genomic-related research (human, plants and animals)
  • stem cell research
  • proteomic research
  • This competition focuses on scientific excellence and strategic value to Ontario, and targets leading-edge, large-scale research initiatives. The minimum support provided by the GL2 to a project is $3.5M. All proposals are required to provide a rationale as to why an investment in their research project is important to Ontario. The GL2 competition is being run concurrently with Round 4 of the ORF-RE program. Applicants can apply to only one of the competitions.

GL2 will contribute towards eligible costs to a maximum of 1/3 of the total project costs, with the remainder coming from a combination of the applicant institution(s) and the private sector.

The internal deadline at the Institutional Initiatives office for Notices of Intent (NoI’s) is June 5, 2009. The Institutional Initiatives office will submit all UofT NOIs to the Ministry for their June 15, 2009 deadline. The Institutional Initiatives office will work with applicants and their division heads to finalize full submissions. Internal deadlines for staged development of proposals will be established in consultation with project teams. The Ministry’s deadline is August 31, 2008.

Forms and additional information on the competition can be found at the following website: http://www.mri.gov.on.ca/english/programs/orf/gl2/program.asp

Please make your colleagues aware of this wonderful opportunity for UofT faculty to attract significant research investment. Questions may be directed to Sheila Van Landeghem (416-976-3603; sheila.vanlandeghem@utoronto.ca).

THE PSYCHOTHERAPY AWARD FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

As we come to the end of the academic year, it is once again time to pause and reflect on our work in considering nominating one of our colleagues for the Psychotherapy Award for Academic Excellence. This award, established in 2001, is intended to recognize outstanding contribution by an individual to the Psychotherapy Program.  The scope of this contribution can be reflected in any of the activities of the Psychotherapy Program, including teaching and education, psychotherapy research, program development, clinical scholarship or creative professional development.  Recognition should be provided to individuals across the entire collective of our work, and not be limited to contributions that represent a “lifetime achievement”. In this way, excellence, passion and commitment, in whatever guises, to the academic endeavour of psychotherapy will be more apparent.

Please see the attached notice for the guidelines around the process of nomination. Thank you for your attention to this.
