Dr. Joel Sadavoy, CPA and RCPS Distinguished Fellowship and Founder, Geriatric Psychiatry

A short while ago you may recall a notice of Dr. Joel Sadavoy being recognized as a Fellow of the Canadian Psychiatric Association. In fact, that should be more accurately noted as Distinguished Fellowship and Founder, Geriatric Psychiatry. These designations emerging from the CPA and the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons respectively recognize Joel for his outstanding national leadership in the development of Geriatric Psychiatry as an accredited subspecialty with rigorous training and evaluation. Geriatric Psychiatry is one of three newly declared areas endorsed by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in this regard. Joel’s early work in establishing a national Academy of Geriatric Psychiatry in Canada set the stage for these subsequent important developments that are shaping our field.
